Pre-Post 10/20 Althusser

This week as we revisited Louis Althusser from CMC 100 and how he discusses how ideology hails us as individuals in our society. To me this is an important aspect of what Althusser discusses in his writing. The interpellation of ideology is present in all parts of our society. It is especially apparent how much this exists when thinking about Walt Disney World and how much young children are mesmerized and communicate with their surroundings. By this I mean that young children see a princess of character and feel as though the princess or character is talking to them making them want to be connected to princess of character. The idea of the hailing the consumers is also present in advertisements in print and commercial form. The ads are created to spark an interest and desire within the consumer to be a part of the product. Since there are all sorts of products today that cover all ages and kinds of people everyone is affected. Therefore there is no way to protect anyone from these types of our culture. It is important to recognize that these things are present in all forms as society continues to create social constructions. Looking at it from a consumer perspective it is hard to even understand the actual hailing process that occurs it just seems natural that we desire a relationship with the beings that “talk to us.” As a critical media studies person looking at it from the critical perspective it is more than obvious the true intentions of all products is to tell to the consumer. However, if you are not looking for the gaps that lead us to understand this it is nearly impossible to believe. By studying how ideology interpellates there is a slim possibility that the spread of knowledge will prevent it from becoming more severe in the future.
