Modern architecture

In class on Tuesday September 14, 2010 we went over the Charles Jencks reading, The Emergent Rules. In the text there was much talk about modernism, post modernism in relation to architecture and forms of such.

"Modernism . . . is progressivist in architecture and reactionary in other disciplines. . . " (43, Jencks 1996)

One of the modern architects that stuck out most to me would be Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright was famous for his promoting organic architecture which is defied as being is a philosophy of architecture which promotes harmony between human habitation and the natural world through design approaches so sympathetic and well integrated with its site that buildings, furnishings, and surroundings become part of a unified, interrelated composition.” Organic architecture is also translated into the all-inclusive nature of Frank Lloyd Wright’s design process. Materials, motifs, and basic ordering principles continue to repeat themselves throughout the building as a whole. The idea of organic architecture refers not only to the buildings' literal relationship to the natural surroundings, but how the buildings' design is carefully thought about as if it were a unified organism.”(Wikipedia)

Something I thought was similar to the idea of modern architecture is this new wave of modern advertising. Monster Media, based out of Deland, Florida is a company that specializes in interactive advertisements. The company will produce interactive digital advertisements that are placed behind building windows, floors, walls, or any other that act as oversized interactive platforms for various companies. Here is one of my favorite advertisements they have created:
